Here's my new IT project: I am developing the audio player I have always wanted. A player so powerful and fast and smooth to use that you will wonder why you have ever used anything else.
I admit it's not fully there yet, but...
...there is now a working application! It plays anything except for WMA. And it runs on pretty much all operating systems.

June 2: v5 is out! We proudly give you: .m3u (playlist) import/export, smarter command ordering (often-used stuff appears at the top) and numerous new commands!
May 31: v4 is out, featuring a cool YouTube downloader. It can extract the sound from any YouTube video and save it as an mp3! (any copyright issues that might arise are your own responsibility). To get started, just type 'youtube' into the command box!
May 28: v3 is out - now with a directory browser. Bugs fixed, including the drag'n'drop thing on Linux.
May 26: v2 is out - now R:U:A:P manages a playlist for you. It can even do some cool flexible looping.
How to run
On Windows: First, install Java if you don't have it. Then just use the comfy Windows installer we made for you! Everything you need for downloading music from YouTube is already contained in the package. If you're upgrading from a previous version, the installer will automatically replace that (you don't need to do anything).
On Linux: Also make sure you have Java.
Then download the zip file and unzip it somewhere.
cd to that directory and type: java -jar ruap.jar
To enable the YouTube functionality on Linux, you need to install ffmpeg which, at least on my installation of Linux Mint 10, can be done like this:
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg libavcodec-extra-52
On MacOS X: Probably the same as on Linux. Can't verify this though (I'm not a Mac user).
Is R:U:A:P free?
Yes! And now it also comes with sources.
